Reviewed by: Christy den haan-Veltman

A wonderful fantasy; sequel to award-winning The Broken Thread; published post-humously; written by a Canadian Children's Librarian. Tobin the hero of this charming tale struggles to maintain his Shadonia heritage in the face of pressure from his classmates and ultimately the governor, who is also his father. Connecting with his grandmother he learns more about his ancient and mystical heritage. This inspires him to savea troupe of puppeteers, which together with his inheritance of a magical wooden flute, set in motion events that will change his country forever. A lovely addition to the fantasy genre with a resilient male hero.
