Candy is thirteen, living in Saskatoon with her parents, her little brother “Carboy,” and Murphy the dog. She is tired of waiting for Grade 8 to end, her mom’s constant nagging, and Gerald the geek hurling insults from across the street. She starts hanging out with some new and exciting friends – friends her mother wouldn’t approve of.

Candy’s new friends have tattoos, they smoke, drink, and they even shoplift. They lead dangerous lives that Candy doesn’t begin to understand, but she doesn’t see any harm in hanging out with them. Besides, they know Raymon, the handsome Chilean car thief who all the girls are in love with.

What Candy doesn’t realize is that she is being set up by her so-called friends. After a puzzling visit to a bingo hall, she hears about a robbery and realizes it was her friends who did it – worse, she was involved without knowing it. Will her friends get away with it? Will they rat on her if they are caught? Will Candy be able to live with the truth even if no one finds out what she’s done?
